Where is your original hometown, and where do you call home now?

I was born in Pensacola Florida. I now reside in Las Vegas, New York City, and I travel to most major poker tournaments around the world.

Where specifically are we most likely to see you playing cards these days?

I typically play in most EPT and WPT tournaments and also on PokerStars under the name jcardshark

When and how did you start playing poker?

I started playing poker in 2002 after a Magic: the Gathering-playing friend introduced me to the game. I started off playing overly tight but I eventually decided to spend a ton of time studying and eventually became a decent player.

When and how did you decide to play poker professionally/seriously?

In 2004, I realized that I was capable of making way more money simply playing poker compared to finishing college and getting a job. The decision to quit college and play professionally seemed like a no-brainer, even though I probably should have finished college.

What do you consider your proudest poker achievements?

I am the season six WPT Player of the year and I have over $6,000,000 in live tournament earnings. I have also made the final table of or won most major online tournaments

When and how did you start coaching others?

I started my poker training site, FloatTheTurn.com, in 2007. I have been coaching players ever since.

What is your coaching specialty? Do you consider yourself a ‘specialist’ in any games?

I consider myself a specialist on most standard forms of hold’em. I build my bankroll by playing limit hold’em. I continued to grow as a sit-n-go player, and I now spend most of my time playing live and online tournaments. I am also well-versed in PLO.

What is your goal in providing coaching through Red Chip Poker?

I hope to help educate poker players who are dedicated to improving at the game. If you don’t mind working hard, I can certainly help you improve.

Please share a coaching success story with us:

I have coached many students, taking them from being marginal amateurs to professionals.

Do you have a professional career/background outside of poker?

I do not. I have been a professional poker player for the last 11 years. I am also the author of numerous best-selling poker books.

What are your favorite hobbies and pursuits outside of poker?

I like to work out, hike, camp, play Magic: the Gathering, and relax.
